Do you (still) get cute for your husband?

Hello sisters! I have a question for you: are you intentional about making yourself physically attractive to your husband?

If yes, I’d love to hear more about how that has blessed your marriage, drop it in the comments section below so that you can encourage other ladies who read this post!

If your answer to this question is “no,” then keep reading! I personally had to learn to make this important over the years.

5 years ago, I was lazy, comfortable and took my size 4 body for granted. I had this mindset for a long while. But honey, fast forward 5 years and 2 kids later, I have learned that putting forth the effort to stay active and look good for Tyson when he comes home is such a blessing to him (and me). Do I nail it each time? Absolutely not. But I try to not make excuses for myself and make the effort. If we ask the Lord for help in this area, He is faithful to help us navigate it!

I am going to speak from the perspective of a full-time homemaker because that’s what I am in this season of my life. So, if you work full-time, you can try to incorporate some of these ideas in when you get off of work.

So, let’s jump right into greeting our husbands with an attractive appearance.

Now, when I say physically attractive, I don’t mean dressing up like you’re going to a dinner party with Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan, ok? Haha.

I mean, simply being intentional about looking good for your man. It doesn’t take a whole lot, just effort. You husband will appreciate that. Here are a couple of things to try. These are merely suggestions to help enhance your already beautiful self.

(Note: This is not law; these are just a few things to help add some zest to your marriage. You husband may not like ANY of this, feel free to modify and shift things around based on what you know your husband would like. Heck, ask him what he likes. And try to find out ways to do those things. On the other hand, if these suggestions challenge you, that might be a good thing. We won’t grow being comfortable. That’s for sure.)

  1. Keep your eyes on the clock. While dinner is cooking, it may be best to putting the kids in their room early, putting down the cleaning, stop folding the laundry early and use 30 minutes or so to prep for hubby to get home.

  2. Hop in the shower to freshen up (wash out the spit-up from your hair, scrub the oatmeal from your arms, maybe get the stench of baby pee and poop off) you NEVER know how the night could end…

3. Making sure your hair looks nice. Get rid of the messy bun, you’ve already gotten it done. Take off the head-wrap sis and make your hair look nice. (Natural hair can have you and me both on the struggle bus at times, but when we use our imaginations, we can come up with some dope styles!)

4. Brushing your teeth or popping a mint or a piece of gum (if you’re in a pinch) makes a BIG difference, so you can confidently plant a wet one on hubby when he walks in.

5. Light makeup (face-powder, blush, mascara and some poppin’ lip-gloss) OR heck, throw on a lip! Because as former first Lady Bird Johnson said:

“Flowers in the city are like lipstick on a woman – it just makes you look better to have a little color.”

YAAS, Lady Johnson!

6. Throw on a pretty shirt and jeans/jeggings or a comfy t-shirt dress with a simple belt. Doesn’t have to be fancy, just be cute. Effort is what we are going after. Use your imagination!

7. Finally, lightly spray on some body spray or a few spritzes of perfume. (Don’t want to overdo it)

Being neat, presentable, put together (and smelling good) says so much to your husband. Try not to allow the littles, any conflict you may have with your man or even the stress of the day keep you from doing this. Will there be hard days, absolutely!

There will busy days when we just can’t do it all. But we shouldn’t put more energy into only looking cute when we go out with our sister-friends or when we are going out to run errands. We meticulously put thought into making ourselves beautiful when we were dating our men, what happened? Well, we got lazy. I know I did. Let’s be honest. And after kids, you can forgot it. I have to check my laziness OFTEN!

We may be thinking, “I got him now, he better love this nasty attitude and pajama set I’m serving him.” But 24/7 though? Um, no. It’s time to switch it up.

And sis, get active. Let’s get our tails moving! I’m a foodie, always have been and like I said earlier, I was a size 4 before I got married and DID NOT WORK OUT, OK? Didn’t feel the need to. Clearly, I’ve wised up over the years because whatever size you are, being active is a MUST! I’ve been on and off over the years, but recently, God really convicted me about my lack of exercise - so for the past 2 weeks, I’ve been trying to get my 10,000 steps in. Every day. 10K steps is a feat, the most I’ve gotten up to is 5,711 + cardio. But hey, it’s a start.

And look, I got so zealous about kicking laziness in the butt, I started going overboard to the point that my body was exhausted, I had worked myself SO hard. I didn’t know that exercise exhaustion was a thing. I had to sit down and rest the next day and I HATED HAVING TO DO THAT! UGH! But look, I’d rather do too much and adjust than do nothing at all. So praise God for the growth there. So, I want to encourage you, don’t settle girly, get moving! One step at a time. You’ll feel better; you’ll be healthier and you will look better.

To sum it all up, I LOVE this wisdom from Stormie Omartian in her best-selling book, The Power of a Praying Wife. In chapter 4, she writes:

“Don’t let negative emotions like resentment, bitterness, self-pity, and unforgiveness build up in you. Keep yourself healthy and attractive. If you don’t think highly of yourself to take care of your body, do it as an act of kindness for him…Get a new hairstyle. Surprise him with a new attitude. Keep your mind refreshed and growing.

Basically, don’t do nothing.”

“Basically, don’t do nothing.”

Pretty much.

So girls! Let’s work on putting for the effort to looking good and being a sight for sore eyes for our men when they walk through the door. Did I miss something, drop some more tips down in the comments below, I’d love to chat with you there!
