Summer is winding down but things are picking up here at the Richardson residence! Home schooling is gearing up and we are tackling the 2nd “R” of learning: WRITING! I wanted to share with you an amazing resource I’ve only been using for a bit, but it’s been really beneficial.

I finally got a tracing book. But before that, I’d been using all sorts of other creative techniques to get our son comfortable with tracing his letters, like this:

He has loved it over the years, but I decided that it’s time to get a legit practice book and for the past few weeks that I’ve had it, I LOVE IT and so has Elijah.

I am also having him use a normal #2 pencil, it’s all we had when we got started and now that I think about it, I don’t think it hurts to get him used to using one that size. It was very tedious for him at first because it was repetitive work, but each time he does it, he gets more and more confident and I love to see his work progress as he traces letter to letter and line to line.

I love this because it’s teaching my son not only how to write the alphabet, but it’s also teaching him how to to sit down for longer periods of time, concentrate, take his time and master those fine-motor skills! What more could a mommy ask for? :)

Checks from mommy are a good thing, double checks are even better! :)

The beginning of each chapter page is helpful as it reminds Elijah (and me, haha) the proper way of writing a letter along with an opportunity to get a little sight word reading practice in.

There you have it! I just wanted to share is really great resource that I finally decided to buy on Amazon! I’d been putting it off, but I’m glad I went ahead and purchased it. I know that Elijah is already benefiting from it. Are you using a tracing book? How is it working for you? Let me know in the comments!
